The Euro 2008 Championships has just finished and The Olympics is next on the list. My oh my I must say on how amazed I was with the display of Spain's performance throughout the whole tournament, particularly performances by David Villa, Xavi Hernendes, Cesc Fabregas, David Silva, and ok lahh we shall include Fernando Torres (just because he scored the final goal).
I remember back in the days where so far only 3 football matches has captivated my mind on the existence of pure brilliance in the world of football as illustrated by the likes of Thierry Henry and Zinedine Zidane.
The three matches which I speak about which actually defines the proper meaning of football playing and skills at the highest level are :
1. The 1998 World Cup final between France and Brazil - which saw France lift the cup after extra time, really an amazing game in the finals.
2. The 2006 World Cup quarter-final match between France and Brazil - which saw France progress through to the semi-finals after the only goal of the match by Thierry Henry. What amazed me was how Zinedine Zidane outshone the likes of Kaka, Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho even when Ronaldinho was deemed to be the best player and at his peak at that time.
3. Again the 2006 World Cup, but this time the finals between Italy and France - which saw France fight with all might and heart to win the match but of course failed to do so after the infamous headbutt by Zinedine Zidane. I still think he's the greatest footballer I've ever seen in my life. Henry comes next lahh of course!!
I would comment that France had been really poor this time around at the Euro's and were outclassed by the style of play of Spain, Germany, and even Turkey. Me, being a France fan would really hope they can get something out of the next World Cup. And yess I am a little biased as Fabregas plays for Spain and that's why I chose Spain as my favourites as soon as France got kicked out of the tournament.
The passing, crossing, and style of play of Spain has really been exquisite this time around and i think Cesc Fabregas really has shown that he can emerge to be one of the best footballers in the game as time comes. But yes i agree Xavi deserved the "Player of the tournament" award, just magnificent I would say of him.
Hmmmmm. That's about it la. Guess I can't wait for the new EPL season to start to witness the new signings of Arsenal such as Samir Nasri, Carlos Vela, and Aaron Ramsay. And yes, we have a new number 14 in the squad, Theo Walcott. Well he proved his worth lahh after he did that amazing run against 5 Liverpool players during the Champions League quarter-final.
Damn it, I'm back to studying. And oh, someone owes me a Happy Meal??
Cheers
