Come Sunday Morning. Family decided to go for a movie at Sunway Pyramid. Afternoon show of course. Dad, Mum, and Henna wanted to watch the latest Bollywood film, whereas I opted for "GI Joe : The Rise of Cobra" as I'd already watched the Bollywood film they were so excited over.
Got my caramel popcorn and coke and headed for screen 10. And yes peeps, this is my second time in my life where I'm watching a film ALONE. I know. Sad. First time was for "Death Race" by the way. But you know really, it is fun sometimes watching a film alone. Just sometimes. Not all the time lahh (In that case then you're really sad). You just have to concentrate on the movie and best part, you don't have to share your popcorn. HAHAHHAHAHA.
But anyways, back to the movie. Absolutely awesome. Bloody brilliant. *In typical Indian accent*, "Suberb-fundastic-minddddblowing-mindblasting!! It didn't blow my mind, it BLASTED my mind". Hahahahahhaa.
Sienna Miller and
Rachel Nichols were stunning as hell. Very very hot. And everyone played their roles superbly. The whole story-line, graphics (CGI), acting, cinematography, and everything was of top class. And I truly can say that "G.I. Joe" is definitely the better movie than "Transformers 2". Yupp, I said it.
Performances are what should be expected from this kind of movie. Not particularly strong, but not bad either. The stand out is Sienna Miller, who is almost unrecognisable with black hair and dark glasses. She seems to be having lots of fun playing the bad guy, and thus manages to create a very memorable and entertaining character.
Rachel Nichols is cute and believable as "Scarlett", and Marlon Wayans is great as "Ripcord". He can be funny and dorky from time to time, but because he's also a pretty good soldier and because he's never too goofy, one can take his character kinda seriously. His flirting with Rachel Nichols was great, not only because it was fun, but because it was nice to see an inter-racial romance making an appearance in a big-budget Hollywood blockbuster.
The main reason, though, of why "G.I. Joe" is so much superior to "Transformers 2" is that the former actually has memorable and fun characters worth rooting for, while the latter has virtually no characters, and instead provides with a gazzilion CGI robots who look virtually all the same during the confusing action sequences. I like the fact that each "Joe" is given a back-story through flashbacks and I also like the fact that, despite having very archetypical personalities, each character is instantly recognizable and played with style.
I can say I was a "Joe" virgin before watching the movie. I knew nothing about the characters, the plot or the role of the "Cobra" organization in the series' mythos, but after watching the film, I am now more interested in everything related to it. Needless to say, the movie does do a really good job at presenting the characters and the plot to newbies, and I'm sure that for die-hard fans, it is a very entertaining and visually-pleasing way to revisit their favourite characters.
Oh wells, in short, "G.I. Joe" was what "Transformers 2" should have been and sadly wasn't. Everyone who enjoys action movies, this has to be the one this year. And as it tagline says, "When all else fails, they don't". And really, all other action-figure films have failed (maybe a few have done average), except this, so far.
Aite then. "The Proposal" is next on my list. Message me guys, if anyone's up for it.
Cheers.
P.S. Oh yea, when I was walking towards the escalator to my car, I saw Shaunny boy with a pretty decent Indian girl. Gave him a pat on the back and he smiled. Notty notty boy Shaun Kang!!
